IndoorCatLab exists to help cat owners make confident decisions about the gear their indoor cats use every day. This policy explains the standards behind everything we publish.

Independence

We decide what to cover and what to recommend. No brand, retailer, or affiliate partner can buy coverage, influence an ICL Score, or change a verdict. We do not publish sponsored reviews.

Evidence and sourcing

We base recommendations on manufacturer specifications, published independent reviews, and owner ratings. We do not invent specifications, measurements, weight limits, prices, awards, quotes, or credentials. If we cannot support a claim, we do not make it.

No first-hand claims

We do not run physical trials of products, and we do not describe our work as first-hand product use. When we describe how a product performs, we are summarizing published information. See How We Review.

Use of AI tools

We use software tools, including AI models, to help collect and summarize research and to prepare first drafts. These tools make mistakes, so an editor reviews every article before publication, checks product details against their sources, and is responsible for what we publish.

Balance

Every review covers drawbacks as well as strengths, and we say plainly who should skip a product. A list with nothing but praise is an advertisement, not a review.

Pet health and safety

We do not give veterinary advice, diagnose conditions, or recommend medication or dosages. When an article touches on litter box problems, eating, or drinking, we explain what owners can check and when to contact a veterinarian. When health information appears, we link to reputable sources. We do not claim a litter is non-toxic, flushable, or safe for every cat unless the manufacturer states it, and we remind readers to check local rules before flushing any litter. For cleaning products, we tell readers to follow the label, never mix chemicals, and keep products away from pets.

Accuracy and corrections

When we get a fact wrong, we correct it promptly and update the article date. If you spot an error, please contact us.

Commissions and coverage

We earn commissions when readers buy through some of our links. Whether a product earns a commission, and how much, never determines whether we recommend it or where it ranks. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
